Milestones & Messages

What is life?

What defines the beginning and the end of something so monumental?

You embark on a journey no one can comprehend.

Life has a meaning, yet no one knows what it is.

We think that we last forever; in reality, one day we will perish.

We will spend the rest of eternity six feet deep in a grave.

We are surrounded by five thousand other people that thought they were immortal too.

My mother taught me about the dangers of moving too fast in a relationship.

But she never told me about was how dangerous the idea of falling in love permitted.

My father discussed the effects of using drugs and alcohol with me.

But what I never learned was the tragedy of seeing those you love fall into the grasp of addiction.

My friends taught me about what it means to be there for someone.

But I never knew what it felt like to be lonely until I spent nights alone.

Every experience, every situation, every life lesson that we learn, shapes us into who we are.

So, who are you?

I was on an airplane with permanent turbulence.

As days turned to months and months to years, I learned to deal with things differently.

I realized that life is what you make of it.

The highway began at a divergent road that led to so many different lanes.

Some are fast; some are slow

Some have wide or narrow lanes; some are busy or abandoned.

All are a part of one destination.

Traffic moves at its own pace.

Sometimes we can't choose where the road will lead us.

We come to dead ends and potholes pop our tires.

We run out of gas or get rear-ended.

Some crash into walls or other cars.

In the end, no one knows where their road will take them.

We are dealt cards from the moment we take our first breath.

They are ours to keep; there are no exchanges.

You either win or lose.

We take our cards as they are.

Our life reflects that of a winning hand, or we fold.

Some of us fold early.

Some spend all of their money trying to buy a winning hand, though they hold only tens.

We are just seeds in the ground, beginning small but with intentions of reaching the sky.

All sprouting and growing and maturing relies on our ability to function independently.

We seek to find our dependence in things that never allow us to grow.

We look through a kaleidoscope and see many different shapes and colors.

We pick our favorites and constantly keep focused on them.

But it never allows us to explore any other portion of the image.

We are caught in the eyes of the beholder.

We fail to acknowledge it's all an illusion.

The colors captivate.

We fall under the spell.

So too do we keep ourselves from the realization that things are not always as they seem.

We are fish in a bowl, swimming in circles.

The reflection of the glass creates a false sense of progression and direction.

Our hopes rise and fall as the realization that a cycle of nothing has formed.

But we remain hopeful that someday, we will discover something new.

Fish have a short memory.

They discover and forget like a psychedelic drug playing tricks on the mind.

What can this tell us about ourselves?

We are all crazy.

We never really take the time to feel it deeply.

It passes us by, a fleeting imitation of a destructive tornado.

Sometimes it leaves parts destroyed.

Sometimes it leaves others untouched.

As humans, we are indefinite creatures..

This is infinity.

But we are only human.
