Mirrors Always Remind You

I look in the mirror and what do I see,

I see a todder, starring back at me,

Running, jumping, skipping, falling,

Scraping her knees and running to daddy,

Getting his scruffy, stubbly, forehead kisses goodnight,

I watch as he chases away her boogieman,

I look in the mirror and what do I see,

I see a young girl starring back at me,

I see her mom, beautiful, strong,

Playing with the girl,

In the sun, the rain, the mud,

 I hear he mother's voice,

Sweet like honey, soft like silk,

As she reveals the answer to her daughter's every curiosity,

I look in the mirror and what do I see,

I see a fifteen year old girl starring back at me,

I see insecurities, fear, worry,

I see a girl wondering who she is,

Who she will decide to be,

Who she is meant to be,

Learning her place in this world,

I see her lost friends,

Her broken hearts,

The fifteen-year-old's "scraped knee",

I look in the mirror and what do i see,

I see a seventeen year old girl starring back at me,

I see light, love, confidence,

Determination and a hard-at-work intelligence,

I see fear and excitement,

Of what is next to come,

I see a girl taking a step into her next chapter,

I look in the mirror and what do i see,

I see the toddler, the little girl, all of them,

Starring back at me,

I see her mother,

I see her father,

I see each piece,

Put together, creating this girl,

I see the strength, the love, the light, the faith they gave,

I see their pride toward what will always be,

Their little girl,

I look in the mirror and what do I see,

I see me.
