Nazi

My phone chimes,

As I walk down

The grey walled corridor

“Hab dich lieb”

I try to

Conceal my voice

To shrink it

So no one will notice

Cocked heads rotate

 In my direction

A single word

Rolling off their tongue

“Nazi”

Raised eyebrows

With contorted faces

Twisted and

Turned in disgust

The weight of a

War crime is rested

On the shoulders

Of a ten-year-old child

They see

An endless sea of bodies

Soaked in blood and tears

Prompting them to

Point their fingers to

A little girl,

Oblivious to the

Known fact

Their looks

Yell a conviction

“Germans are murderers”

They can’t see me,

Trembling with fear

To them

I am a beast

Born of hatred

Words that made me

An outcast

Alone on an island,

Miles from shore

Saying “I love you”

Made me

Less

Then human.
