Nigeria My Nigeria!

Nigeria My Nigeria!
Land of tribal mixture,
Sixty years over,
I still behold your picture,
Your independence,
In glory and grandeur.
Nigeria my Nigeria!
Where is thy future?

Seven years later,
Came the sounding of drums,
No merry making matter,
But of war that clumps.
War against a brother,
For the bight of Biafra,
Nigeria my Nigeria!
Where is thy future?

Amidst claims and counter claims,
Restored was unity,
Of vallains and the slained.
Unity in diversity, packaged in shame.
For one Nigeria!
Voiced in twisted tongues.
Nigeria my Nigeria!
Where is thy future?

In unity we stand,
In plight of hopeless faith,
Peace and progress on pages of papers.
Corruption in motion, since the oil boom.
By self centered leaders,
With no remorse, for our impending doom.
Nigeria my Nigeria!
Where is thy future?

Doctors on strike,
Pump price on the hike,
Universities are specialist of striking workers.
Clueless leaders, would shout, brain drain.
Amidst this attitude of lacklustre,
Our heroes past now in vain.
Nigeria my Nigeria!
Where is thy future?

Our roads are death traps,
Education, fully dressed in rags.
Agriculture is dwindling,
Fuel scarcity is thriving,
Water and electricity,
Now items of luxury.
Nigeria my Nigeria!
Where is thy future?

Mothers are toiling,
Children are starving,
The bomb is the bread,
Of the helpless poor.
In this country of plenty.
Poverty! clings on every door,
Nigeria my Nigeria!
Where is thy future?

Insurgents kills the defenceless,
Hatred threaten our co-existence.
Banditry thrives on history's page,
Great disaster on Boko Haram's stage.
Yet we dance and still we merry.
To this needless tune, of one Nigeria!
Nigeria my Nigeria!
Where is thy future?

Freedom of the press,
Has longed been repressed.
The judiciary's case,
Always Justice delayed.
Protesters are shot at, killed or jailed,
Behold spilled blood, at Lekki toll plaza.
Nigeria my Nigeria!
Where is thy future?

Nepotism is the lotion,
Greesing corruptions wheel.
Corruption, that slow motion of national growth.
Corruption, that notion of the hollowed chambers,
Of leaders shrouded in shady deals,
Who have no remorse, for her country's ruins
Nigeria my Nigeria!
Where is thy future?

Insecurity is ruling the land,
Boko Haram, bandits and the other gang,
Bombing, rape, abduction of women
Aimed fully at the treasury's loot.
Solely for religious or political gains,
Truly! truly, no one gives a hoot.
Nigeria my Nigeria!
Where is thy future?

Electricity, is like Labalaba,
Hovering over, a million nectar,
Yet unable, to pollinating one,
When transiently,... light is restored,
We joyously shout, up NEPA!
And when sadly light is seized? we all scream HAAAH!
Nigeria my Nigeria!
Where is thy future?

Then came, the masquerade, called change,
Who poorly danced to the next level,
Corruption soared, like a large bee hive,
Insecurity everywhere did thrive,
Calling bandits names, pleasant and sweet.
Instead of mere terrorist, they truly are
Nigeria my Nigeria!
Where is thy future?

On the bed of bad governance,
Our leaders dance,
Ballot stuffing or budget padding,
Just give it simply an appropriate name,
What about.... that stolen mace,
Twice stolen for national disgrace.
Nigeria my Nigeria!
Where is thy future?

Agriculture is dying,
Food shortage is rising,
Blood on our farmlands,
Farmers daily, for safety scampers.
When did blood become manure?
Yet the middle-men get the blame.
Nigeria my Nigeria!
Where is thy future?

Our roads have deep wounds,
Neglected by the crown,
The blood of the poor splattered aground,
Drunk by our neglected pot-holes
To fix these roads, No one would care,
Till it's infection kills a big man.
Nigeria my Nigeria!
Where is thy future?

Resource control, you don't want,
Constitutional amendment you don't want,
Electronic voting, you don't want,
Self actualization, you don't ever want
Electoral law won't just make sense
What exactly do you want
Nigeria my Nigeria!
Where is thy future?
