Night Terrors

Wed, 02/24/2016 - 18:50 -- Maleeka

Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night

Sweat covering my face

The temperature of my body heat escalated

Feeling paralyzed

And my heart

My heart is pounding

Like there’s a wild animal locked inside

Throwing itself against the wall

Trying to break through

With every beat

A wave of emotions collide against my body

Knocking the breath out of me

As a frantically try to remember where I am

It feels like I’ve woken up on a boat

Surrounded by miles of moving water

Crashing

Pushing

Yanking

Pulling me in 462 directions.

But I just lay there,

Staring at the ceiling,

Waiting for the storm to end,

For my brain to stop running

So I can breathe again.
