Ode to Sweet Damnation

Ode to Sweet Damnation

You came to the island on a broken raft

Adrift in a sea of confusion, I reeled you in

Passed on a kind smile, twinkled my green eyes

I knew you were mine then

Tattered rags for clothes, I dressed you                                                                                             5

In the finest silk and velvet robes

You, a doll, my plaything

With real icy tears of gratitude in your eyes

All the monsters of the

Sea and air                                                                                                                                                                   10

Hunting for you, wanting your blood

For wine at their dinner tables

They scream vengeance, they know you

You have killed their kind

With your smile, with your                                                                                                                                       15

Bare hands

But I care not for their grievances

No-one shall harm my jewel, my warrior

Being a goddess comes with wonderful

And terrible power                                                                                                                                                     20

My arms like golden maces

I crushed them all

Locked on this isle with you is no mere mortal

Why do the gods fall in love with angelic mortals?

You, crying, must leave my occult sanctuary                                                                                                                 25

The fate of the worlds lies in your eyes

Because another waits for you in Ithaca

My love has delayed your journey far too long

Unbeknownst to you, your raft cries out in pain

I held my hand over its timbers                                                                                                                               30

Fate, life, you and the world above…

Hang on My choice

The raft whimpered and groaned, unsure of me

I want to kill this escape animal, but

I love you too much to trap you forever                                                                                                                 35

On this island with me

Life surges through the raft’s limbs

It is roused, rises, ready to flee with you on its back

You, my gorgeous lyre sitting in a corner

Have a concert to play elsewhere in the world                                                                                                     40

Go while I still let you
