This Our Dream

Lost in a sea I stand
In the ebb and flow
Of bodies like never before
The rustle of clothing and fans
Like waves meeting the shore
Of the podium before us on this day
Where he stands before us
Like Moses
Sharing a dream not of parting this sea
But a dream of coming together
One nation under God
Lifting each other up
From the toil of the past
To where all stand equal at last
Where the only bonds are those of brotherhood
The only color that matters
Is the red of the blood
Within our human hearts
Full of the same needs and wants
Of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness
Happiness that builds and bubbles over
In the cheers and applause
That cause this sea to roil
But never shall our anger boil
Over into rage
As we have marched
To make a change
With peace as placid and cool
As the waters within the pool
That this sea of my brothers and sisters surround
As we share
This, our dream
