A Paper Chest

Tears fall like rain

as a breath is stopped,

as a noose is tightened,

as a cell is spread,

as a heart is broken.

Tears are soaked up in a sweater like rain immersing itself into the ground

and nourish it.

And soon smiles bloom like flowers.

They grow and thrive from

a smile,

a prayer,

a friend,

a warm embrace.

The goodness of a human heart is all it takes.

Those who talk with such powerful words,

words from souls of broken, paper-like chests.

The mere thought of piecing it back together

is all it takes.

While unable to heal my own,

is the opportunity to heal another's.

With folds, tears, and rips,

comes a time of tears,

a time of refelction.

To serve another,

is to serve yourself.

The bountiful love from one paper chest

to another

is how my smile blooms,

is what nourishes my soul,

is what unfolds, and pieces back together,

my own broken, paper chest.
