Summer Air: In Memory of Aidan Pankey
A ten year old boy,
Caught in the warmth of San Diego’s summer air,
Never seeking harm or trouble,
Doing all the things ten year olds do.
His grandmother decides to assist him in seeking adventure
Maybe buying this young lad a new pet rat in the midst of the noon summer air.
Seeing the amount of adore he had towards animals,
This was a marvelous idea.
At the store, he finds the rodent that stands out the most,
And falls in love straight way.
Bouncing with joy as they leave, new companion in hand.
This boy is ecstatic and cannot wait for the playtime to come
As grandma watches him,
Smiling down, warmer than the outside’s breeze
Absolutely no thought in mind of the nightmares to come.
Little boy gets bit, but thinks nothing of the scenario,
It has happened before, let us wash it clean
As the night slowly progresses
He grows far more ill
Is it just the flu?
No.
Disease stricken and contracted.
It is too late.
Shallow breathing beside his terrified eyes-
He collapses, never to rise again,
Except into the arms of an angel,
On a warm summer night.
