Those of Us

Some of us never really learn to fly

Some birds hop from the nest

Destined to taste earth

Destined for the fall

And some of us stay behind

Afraid to fall like the ones we lost

Afraid to fly like those who never came back

And afraid to try

We are not afraid to die

We are fearful of the act

The timeless dance on the edge of existence

Careful where you place your feet

Though death is such a cliche

A plot so tired and worn

Why can’t I just run?

Why can’t I fly to the sun?

And why can’t I fall?

Someone always has to fall

Because someone has to take it all

Read the writing on the walls

And watch us fly

Who says we can’t all fly?
