What To Do

As a malicious dragon is out loose in a nearby village,

I contemplate on whether or not I should sit still and look pretty

For a knight in shining armor to save the day.

Should I simply wait in my tower and

Go with the plot that perpetuates sexism?

Should I not take my only chance for adventure

By staying away from the danger?

Of course not!

My tale is not at all misogynistic because

I can empower myself to climb out of the tower.

I can empower myself to solve the conflict.

I can because I am courageous as a young girl.

That is why being a damsel in distress does not fit me.

If anything, I am the knight in shining armor who confronts the dragon myself.

So out in the open battle field,

The creature that has caused poverty and famine

Stands before me.

I’ve got to admit that I don’t have the guns to shoot down it down,

The atomic bombs to erase it from existence,

Or the muscles to punch it viciously.

But it’s ok, because hate cannot defeat hate.

Knowing this, I wipe my foggy glasses clouded by ignorance and misunderstanding,

And stand up against the dragon.

I don’t just stand there, but I use my eyes to see clearly,

To have perspective.

With that, I fulfill small acts of kindness by

Volunteering my time towards feeding those who are less fortunate.

For I am making a difference in someone’s life,

Without any weapons or a trusty steed.

Because all I need is courage, my good nature, and chivalry

To stand up for what’s right.
