When there's nothing else

“A feeling of expectation and desire for a certain thing to happen”

It’s the simplest ideology that so many of us take for grant,

never spending more than a second thinking about it

However, involuntarily, we rely on it so much and without it,

life itself would be an absence of ambient light

A sluggish soul that could never grasp and confide in anything

All chances of smiling skies and singing birds fading into a vast sea of pitiful emptiness

It would seem, we would lose all faith in humanity

But this single thought, concept, even perception if you will

Brings us the conviction, willpower, assurance to stand up against all odds

Even when we might feel there is possibly nothing else to yearn for

No other goals to conquer and defeat

And no other chances to succeed

But there is always hope

And this belief of hope makes everything worth living for

My life has never been perfect, and never will be

There is always something to want, achieve, accomplish, create

The list could go on for eternity

And this list often meets challenges, threats, failures, loss

That can impede all thoughts of ever touching success

But I know, with hope, there is nothing that can’t be done

Nothing too high to reach

Nothing too hard to see

All it takes is the strength to want to see another day

To make a difference in not only our lives but others as well

Martin Luther King and Gandhi would certainly agree

It takes more than just yearning for change

We have to have something to latch onto

Something to make us “do” instead of “want”

Haven’t you ever found yourself wanting to give in?

To just stop trying when the world is going against you?

Haven’t you found yourself with no one left to talk to?

You’re just all by yourself, not a single ear to hear your pain?

Haven’t you ever heard the phrase “Never give up?”

Hope

Without it I would never want know who I could become

It’s the one determination that gives my soul

A desire to see the sun rise every morning
