Where am I

I look around, I see loud girls and goofy boys;
can you guess where I am? You might have said a school playground.
I look around I’m surrounded by four walls and an adult standing and watching me;
can you guess where I am? You might have said a prison.
I look around, I see boys flirting with girls they don’t have a chance with;
can you guess where I am? You might have said a common city bar.
I look around, I see people eating snacks without shame;
can you guess where I am? You might have said the cafeteria.

I’m looking around and I think so many possibilities to where I could be;
but I can’t figure it out. I see so much at once and I wonder what the problem is.
A minute ago I could’ve sworn that just walked into a high school classroom.
But now I look around and I see everyone temporarily having the time of their lives
instead of learning so they can have a fulfilled life.

I also see what should have been a teacher, but instead look like some
kind of prison guard just spouting out boring information.
But now I’m done looking and I choose to stand up and say, “What’s going on!!
I thought we were learning?! And teachers your better than this!!
Can’t you make it so we want to learn it” What people forget, is that learning is a two way street.
The students learn; but not by eating, or flirting, or screaming, or even just sitting.

They learn by really listing and enjoying what they hear. And the teachers teach;
but not by constantly reciting what they wrote in a book and saying it seven times a day,
in the same tone, in the same way, all day every day.
They come up with ways to make teaching interesting. We know you work all day but so do we.
Teachers complain how student don’t participate well in class and students
complain how teachers bore them to the point that it’s not even worth it.
Try doing something different or unique to your normal routine.
Because I’m sick and tired of walking into a class every day and being so
confused by what I see that I have to ask where am I?
