Why Do I Write?
Location
Do I need a reason?
To speak to the lonely,
the abandoned, the despairing,
the homeless, the victim, and the unwell?
Do I need a reason?
To write elaborate poems of sympathy and comfort,
to speak of the guilty and the innocent?
How about the wealthy and the blessed?
Do I need a reason?
To reach through the barrier in this world,
and touch the desperate and suffering on the shoulder
in a show of empathy?
How about to name the guilty,
the thief, the killer and the rapist?
Do I need a reason?
To write of the just, the peaceful, the helping hand?
Do I need a reason to write?
Do I need to feel some kind of honor
or significance in jotting down notes from whatever crosses my mind?
I don’t love writing for the sake of the wicked and the civilized.
I don’t love writing for unmasking the breathtaking and appalling things in this reality.
I love to write for the sake of writing.
I love to create a simple story
from the bits and pieces hovering in my mind
and watch it unravel into something more.
I love to look back
upon my work
and feel that warm glow in my heart
in hopes
that maybe I can make a change
in this world after all.
