Abandoned Walls

Once beautiful, strong, confident walls

surrounded the city that was your heart

built to keep the secrets in and potential dangers out

until one day a gateway emerged and tourists

journeyed the mysterious land no one had yet to discover

only to exploit its untouched beauty and

soon your once bare walls were tarnished with the

graffiti of others that wouldn’t wash away leaving

regret lingering in your mind and

an emptiness, unimaginably immense, in your manipulated home

that you walk away letting the walls crumble and

crack in the abandoned city that was your heart as the

temperature drops and becomes just as numb as you

after opening up that it no longer feels like home.
