Behind this Mask

I am so sick of this plastic smile,

But if I were to take it off for a while…

Behind this mask what they would see

Is nothing I ever foresaw I would be.

The tear stains imprinted on my cheeks do show

Every single thing that has ever caused me sorrow.

I wipe away the tears so no one will suspect

Anything that shows my life is a wreck.

If they knew of my deep, dark, dreary past,

They would know why I wish some moments my last.
