Behind a Smile

Dear Sis,

I did not see your pain,

behind your brightful mask.

The brutality of hurtful words,

Of those with blackened hearts.

They snicker and glare,

As your laughter dies.

You wore nothing but sleeves,

Hiding your heart.

I see you sacrifice,

Risking your love,

And happiness.

I'll protect you,

From falling into the void,

Waiting for you.

Until my life dims away,

Like a candle's flame.
