Dear Humanity

Dear humanity,

Is my glass half-full or half-empty?

Well, what kind of question is that?

No matter how I answer, I can't win:

Either I am then deemed an unrealistic dreamer

Who refuses to accept reality;

Or I am labeled depressed

As someone who hates their existence

Someone who can never truly smile

Because every once in a while

She must crack like a damn nut.

Well, guess what?

Neither are true.

Dear humanity,

Some aspects may be near to the truth,

And may hit close to home;

But anyone who hangs around me knows

I have my own demons to fight

And I may cry myself to sleep at night,

Yet I am still grateful for all I have.

I can still love the moments that I share laughter

Among the people I deem worthy

Because it eases the pain I have, the pain I am hiding.

But then again, I could be lying.

Nothing I say could be the truth, and between me and you

I could be a sociopath

Who has given up all rights to thinking or feeling.

But y'know what? That's what is so fun about living

Because no-one is the exact same as someone else.

No bio-ID is the a mirror image

No breath is ever the same as the one before

No man steps into the same river twice.

Dear humanity,

I am still labeled, still categorized into neat little sections

Where no-one is different, and no-one mentions

Who they really are. Who they have to be to hide

The fear in their eyes;

Because deep down, we despise this bar-code

Across our foreheads that marks us as one thing or another.

I am considered a 'poser' to some, a 'fake'.

I am considered to be a work of art to others.

I am both a coward and a hero;

Everything to someone; to someone else, a zero.

But to many, I am a spectacle – I am known as a 'freak'.

Dear humanity,

I've been called 'phony', a 'piece of meat'.

But yet again, I am none of the above.

I am passionate about being me

And I am sure as Hell a piece of work,

If that doesn't work for you

Then go find something else

Not someone else to do, someone else to use

As a remedy to hide your own vast insecurities.

Because you might actually be like me.

You could be.

You never know.

Sometimes you can look in the mirror and feel good

As you walk out that door,

That good feeling might not be there anymore

And by the end of the day

All you want to do is stay

In your own little Wonderland,

And walk hand-in-hand

With someone just as mad as you are

Because without them we would be behind bars:

Made not of iron or steel

But by the things we are too afraid to feel.

Dear humanity,

You still use me, you still abuse me,

Just so you can feed the crimson-eyed monsters that hide deep in your soul.

But there are people out there that are dying for what they believe in,

All for different reasons!

Maybe not for religion and maybe not for faith;

But their hearts are sure in the right place.

So before you open your mouth to speak,

Choose your words for me

Ever so carefully –

Because I am neither victor nor victim,

And I am still appreciating and still enjoying

Every second of the life I am living.

Dear humanity,

Labels are for soup cans, not for me.

I hope your brain gets it first, you see

Because 'freaks' and 'phonies' have feelings, too

And we 'pieces of meat' don't have to waste our valuable time on you.

But yet, we still do.

You know why?

Because maybe the tears we shed and the tears we hide

Not because we want to, but because we have been taught to

We have been intimidated and we have had fear struck into the core of our beings

And we will

Oh we will

We will expose you for your evil doings

And make good of revealing your lies.

We think you might be different than all the others.

Dear humanity,

Give us a reason to respect you and for us to be kind to your mothers

Because she didn't have to birth you. It's sad, but it's true.

Yet she obviously saw reason to

Put her body through the trauma, through the torture

Of the nine or so months she had to endure

All the pain and suffering of the world just for you.

And you know what?

Some people don't know their mothers,

So they can't thank the person who gave them life;

Sometimes for reasons outside of their control.

For instance, I didn't want mine to go –

But I still do my damnedest to let my mother know

That her little girl is making her proud.

Dear humanity,

I know I learn my lessons late and do things that aren't allowed

But everyone has those moments, they make their mistakes

And my heart still fucking breaks!

Because people like you exist in this world.

People like you exist,

And you are now one more name on the casualty list

Of the people I misplaced my faith and trust in;

You were someone who was worth my while.

Dear humanity,

So ask me again:

Is my glass half-empty or half-full?

I don't actually care, I will drink the damn thing

Down to the bottom, until there is a pool

Of whatever is left.

Why do you have to victimize yourself when you make others your victims?

You can be a bully, be a conqueror

Or you could be a hero to her.

Yeah, that girl who sits in the corner,

Her face hidden behind pages of a musty book

Because she is too enthralled in that imaginary world, and is too afraid to look

Up at reality for the way it is,

Because it is so full of judgment

And it is all unwarranted.

None is spared for the misfits and the misunderstood

But the popular and the awarded good

Go by unnoticed, they have a free pass

At whatever life has to offer them,

So you raise your glass

To these false heroes.

But it is clear here who is really the zero.

Dear humanity,

Tell me, please

Why do you stare me down as I walk past

Is it because of my bounce because of my knees,

Or because I hum happily?

Or is it because you wish to look for

All my flaws and my imperfections

Check the scars, they're all there in my reflection

And you are still too afraid to ask about them.

You are too scared to ask about my stories, about my life

But instead would rather mock me and gawk at me

You don't know a thing.

Dear humanity,

You don't know a goddamn thing.

Who knows what would happen if you ask me about it all?

You could make a friend, learn something new

Sometimes I can impart some great wisdom I have learned unto you.

But no, you still refuse!

Because you can't stop the abuse

You love to inflict upon others, so you continue the harassment.

And you wait for the look of embarrassment on their face,

Which is hidden beneath the horror of your words

And sometimes the things you don't say, which are even worse.

Dear humanity,

At the end of the day, do you sit down

To think of new insults to pelt at us 'freaks'?

Much like snowballs filled with shrapnel of your flaws,

And your imperfections, and your fears.

I am for once, all of the above.

I am at once happy, and depressed

I am the misfits, the few people left

Who will stand up to you.

I will stand up to you.

Dear humanity,

I don't do this for myself.

No.

Not for me, but for her.

The little girl in the corner,

With her thick glasses and her nose in a book;

Because you won't get off her back

About all the qualities you wish she had, but she lacks.

Because she doesn't want to conform to the desires of people like you!

But one day, just one day,

She will become more powerful than you'll ever be,

And you will tremble in fear and shudder at the anxiety

That returns to you quicker than karma can run.

Dear humanity,

You don't need to worry, humanity, because

You can still ask your fucking meaningless questions;

And await an answer without mention

Of the judgment you will impose

On all those who know the real answer

Which is that the questions cannot be answered!

So you can turn up your nose and walk away.

So I now to you say..

Is the glass half-empty or half-full.

Because all the things you spout from your twisted mouth is nothing to me.

And you will get what is coming to you, fate is funny like that

It'll hurt more than being beaten by an iron bat.

So, optimism or pessimism?

Dear humanity,

I don't really care.

I don't fucking care.

Because I'm gonna go over to that little girl,

And I am going to talk to her for a while.

I might even pull up a chair.

Maybe we'll be friends, and I will braid her hair.

But you can't help but stare at us.

And please, dear humanity,

Get back to us when you've improved

Your outlook on life, your attitude.

Because until then,

We 'freaks', we 'fakes', and we 'pieces of meat'

Want absolutely NOTHING to do with you.
