Different

Dear High School Bullies,

He was different,

He didn't look like me and you

He didn't speak like me and you.

He didn't try to be what every other person tries to be.

That's why they bullied him,

That's why they tripped him in the halls,

Shoved him in the bathroom,

Told him to kill himself at lunch.

He couldn't understand what he did wrong,

He hurt.

His pain ran deeper than anyone could understand.

Death sat in a broken chair rocking back and forth in his mind,

His parents found him hung downstairs,

In their unfinished basement.

A pipe holding a rope held his body;

They act like they care now.

Like he mattered to them.

It's funny,

How people can treat someone like they don't matter,

But once they're gone,

Can't stand up for what they've done.

They know it's their fault,

And think that since he's dead and can't say anything,

It's okay to act like they care.

For sympathy that they don't deserve.
