evolve

A snake sheds its skin with struggle In order to grow, must we all? A blank slate for it, while i stay the same- not growing tall So? Unwanted thoughts emerge Of uncertainty, self-doubt, fear Fear of growing older, can i? will i? Please just explain how These thoughts, seem to be a thing i keep So every year When others make resolutions I just have one Shed your skin Leave behind the thoughts Stop lugging them around Run till you can't remember why you are But it doesn't work 12 am hits- Confetti falls Couples kiss And i get a call It's from last year And all those before I try to fend them off I try my very best My army is full but it's heart isn't My soldiers let the enemy through they surrender on home turf Leaving open acres for any use If they could just put up a fight, be steadfast in the night Maybe the opponent would dissolve, and i can finally evolve
