Eyes of a Stranger

So long have I tarried in it,

That thick stuff they say is laughter.

But I hear the bitterness

Behind it. How cruel it can be-

Loud and harsh.

And all this time I didn’t-

Wouldn’t-

Believe it. But now I know that

I have been looking into

The eyes of a stranger.

Unknown,

It had forced itself

Into the back of my mind.

But I won’t watch anymore;

I’ve seen this all too much.

And no longer will I gaze

Into those black holes,

Those eyes of a stranger.
