Why do I have to wear the mask?
To build my walls up and guard my own heart
To keep my soul quiet und every nerve wired
Not letting myself feel fully desired?
Why do I have to be the perfect one?
The girl with the smile, what a sly guile!
The one with A-grades, her shirt always straight,
Like a law with no flaw, what a dream that were!
Why do my “friends” keep asking the same?
Not how are you or how was your day,
But what is the homework or could you help me,
As if I weren’t the one drowning at sea.
Why do I keep fearing that day?
When the curtains go up and I bow onstage
But no one applauds or cheers me on,
For the life I know is suddenly … gone.
Hi! I'm a student and a huge fan of poetry! I don't usually talk about my feelings in front of others and poetry allows me to express myself without worrying about judgement or misunderstanding. I hope that you'll be able to find your safe haven in my poems, too ;D
