Haunted Memory

Location

I walk next to the lake

my toes sinking in the sand

reminiscing of the days

when I wasn’t spoken too

lost in a sea of people

who wanted nothing to do with me

no matter how hard I try

I can’t win

every name

every smirk

every grin

leaves me sinking breathless

like a rose that never bloomed

each day is like a never ending battle

between dark and light

stares

sarcastic laughter

constantly surround me

fear of loneliness

has become reality

desperate search for freedom

has long months to come

they’re not gonna stop

until I’ve packed up and gone

thunder will speak to me

lightning will brighten the dark path i can’t see

so here i am

alone and helpless

with but a piece of paper to rely on
