Just a girl

Dear Girl,

You're not nice. That's putting it plainly.

You're as nice as a cornered bear. Because that's what you are.

Scared. Trapped.

I am free. You look at me, floating like a hummingbird, and the hatred wells up inside you.

You're mean. At least the scared animal inside you has a reason to be mean.

I'm not the one trapping you, Girl. You are.

Your doubt, insecurity, and envy are wrapped around your neck; making it hard to breathe.

I tried to take it away for you. I tried to be kind.

Even though I have my own inner fears, I put on a face to protect you.

I'll know better next time.

That was before you let the bear loose and tore me apart. Tore my loved ones apart.

How dare you, Girl.

But next time, I will still protect you. Even after all you've done.

Want to know why?

Because you're just a girl.
