Lamentations of the Avant Garde
If They tell you you’re strong, don’t listen,
Don’t let Them make you a graveyard of empty ambition,
‘Cuz the strong never fail to break,
After day, after weeks of all you can take.
‘Cuz the weeks make you weak as you run and you search
For the strength that you had at first,
But you’re breathing hard and you’ve lost your worth,
And all that you know that is right is to fight,
But what do we fight for- really?
But don’t let Them tell you you’re weak!
They’ll eat you alive with your own kitchen sink.
They grind the gears using all of your fears, because anxiety feeds Their hope.
You’re never enough for the others.
In the big scheme of things, everyone suffers,
At the hands of those who build you up and break you down,
‘Cuz what I’ve found is that happiness is moot.
Individuality is the name of the game we’re all playing but it’s synonymous with loneliness:
Look it up, it makes sense.
Since unique means different and differences are scary,
If you can’t empathize, you idolize ideals that mold us into little chess pieces,
Little pawns killing queens, and queens looking down,
Begging anyone to take their crowns,
And give them a chance to see who they were,
Before the World told them who they should be.
But who are we, anyway? Thats what They ask,
But it’s more like a slap in the face because everybody wonders yet nobody knows,
The colors that really make up our souls,
And the kinds of things that only show at our darkest moments,
When everything is black, no matter what.
So don’t let Them tell you what you are, and what you aren’t,
Because everyone is more than They thought,
Or less. If less is more to you,
Because more can be hard, and so can less,
But at the end of the day, we all undress,
in the same way.
And if you say No it’s wrong, and if you say Go you’re still wrong,
So you can’t forget how things can be spun,
Because you spin them too- for everyone,
And that horrible truth makes us the same
In some masochistic, lonely way,
Saying we’re all alone when we’re all together,
‘Cuz the silence gets louder the more you hear and fear that you’re by yourself.
So live on and just breathe,
And the world will keep turning subconsciously.
You are what you are, you’re strong and you’re weak.
The breaths you take will just anchor your feet,
To an earth whose biggest feat was learning to learn from the ash of defeat.
