Me Against Me

I want to do ballet.

NO. You’re not flexible enough.

I want to do beauty pageants.

NO. You’re not near attractive.

Ok.

I’ve made six A’s and one B this quarter.

If you don’t have straight A’s then it means your dumb.

Ok, you’re right.

I always want to strive to the top as my mother would tell me to do

But what’s holding me back to push through?

Me, myself and I

Just me, myself, and I

How do I win the war against myself?

By simply listening and reading the words of the Lord

I am beautiful and determined; I am me, not someone else.

For it is he who taught me to open my wings and soar

I am going to the University of Florida

NO. You’re not smart.

YES. I am because I have been accepted and will be attending.

You will be nothing but failure in the future.

NO. Everything I do and accomplish is because of the Lord, the drive for my mother,  and more importantly because I learned how to carry my head high and believe.

I fought and won,

I was once overwhelmed, lost, and confused

For the race was a sustained and tedious run,

The New Me is strong and can no longer be abused.
