at Mira's home

at Mira's home
by 14 year old Dove Seconds

in english my Name means orange
brilliant, bright
Strength

but at school it means black
putrid, poor
Untouchable

at church it means gray
faded, bleached
Trivial

at the park, it means brown
murky, pockmarked
Alone

at home it means crimson
bone and blood and sinew
Shatter
into frozen fractals
that
Kill me

at joel’s home, it means blue
viscous, gelatinous
like
Mercury
that swirls around in his mouth
and sticks to the roof

but at Mira’s home, it means Red
Petite, Dainty
Full of life

my Name is
Hope
my Name is
Truth
my Name is
Love

but only on days when
the moon has gone to bed

only on days when
ghosts turn to gold

only on days when
the stars remember me

only on days when I am
at Mira’s home
