The Mirror of Change

We try to change the way we are,

In order to blend ourselves into the background.

We spend our entire lives in boxes,

Constantly fretting about our decisions.

We keep our thoughts to ourselves,

And don't want others to see the other side of us.

We hide behind a mask,

And put on the exact same mask like others have on.

It's scary to see that we have become like this.

Looking in the mirror and worrying over nothing.

Always worrying and worrying about trivial things.

We think things like how we are not pretty enough.

But it's because we are beautiful.

How we are not smart enough.

But it's because we are geniuses.

Why we are not cool enough,

But it's because we are amazing.

We put ourselves down for simple things,

And never see the greatness that lies deep within us.

Every scar, every blemish, every once of our body is put down,

yet what more can we ask for?

We choose to live our lives in fear,

But fear must no longer consume us.

We choose to live in the box of another,

Yet we should take action for ourselves.

We choose to live for perfection and radiance,

Even though we already shine bright without it.

After the damage is done,

We look at ourselves in the mirror.

We don't see ourselves, but another person,

Living our life under our name.

We can't seem to get a hold of our true selves,

Yet it's been with us all along.

We stare deep into the mirror

That lies on the wall of the bathroom.

Mirror, mirror on the wall.

Who's the most unique one of them all?

We smile because the answer is so simple.

It lies underneath all the makeup, textbooks, and scars.

Mirror, mirror on the wall.

I won't change myself at all.
