Monsters Within

Scarred is my heart

With wounds eternally deep.

Temptation is calling,

But I have a promise to keep

Not only to you,

But to myself as well,

Because if I give in now,

I will have fell

Into an abyss so dark

Where monsters come out

And pull you everywhere

As they taunt and they shout.

These monsters I speak of

Are no strangers to me.

I followed them into the dark

As you can see

Displayed upon my arms

Are the marks of their claws.

I tried to resist,

But couldn’t seem to pause.

What was I doing?

“This is reckless!” I thought.

It’s nothing I should be doing,

Definitely not.

But I gave in,

Let them mark me with shame.

These monsters, you see,

Play a terrible game.

A game in your mind

You never can win

Unless you find God

Who will free you from sin.
