My Animals Sing

My animals sing
Unaware of everything
The pain that lingers within
The torment to end
But they know it’ll never stop
Pieces of what they loved
No longer alive; But float high above

They’re all my pets
I wish to lay them to rest
Such a burden on the soul
But they only hoped to grow old
Not just for one but all
They lost it all; They lost their call

They fight on
Like the tide, they pull on and on
They only know one song
Death; And its harbinger comes along
Embodiments of the soul and mind
No one ever saw their sign

They try to sing
Despite everything
Along to the sound of hope
Finding peace and learning to cope

They never lost control
Nor their soul
When they wanted to die
Life laughed, then shook their hand
And welcomed them home.
