My Severed Identity

The snow falls, a beautiful white. The tears fall, blurring my sight. I fall, down onto my knees. Hear my cry, Lord! I’m begging You, please. Little by little the flakes come down. Slowly by slowly things are turned around. What used to be is no more, But I keep my mouth shut, I cope, I ignore. One night goes by, there’s a blanket of snow Covering the green grass and rocks below. One reminder of what was, the mask is in place. Shielding the pain, the hurt, With a smile on my face. A single ray of sun, the white become grey. A single thought of what was, my mask falls away. The pretty white is replaced with wet sod, As my true feelings and emotions Replace my happy façade. Here I am, my true self, this is the real me. Like barren ground with neither snow nor debris. It’s taken me a while, but nevertheless, Take me or leave me, I’m a beautiful mess.
