My testimony
Months had passed and no light could be found
The darkness in my heart was too overpowering,
The battles were always lost
And my hopes were crushed to pieces,
I was bullied in school,
My whole world seemed so incomplete and disregarded
I felt so alone in my own home, a thousand pounds of insecurities chained to my body making it harder and harder to get up in the morning.
Talking to my parents would aid my broken heart, but only momentarily.
Unfortunately, it didn’t take long before the monsters in school ended my heart’s recovery
Rumors were spread, I was always left out, and all of my relationships deteriorated along with everything else I had once been proud of
But every Sunday,
Regardless of the never-ending doubt and suicidal thoughts,
I dragged myself to church in hopes of refuge.
I was drawn in by the almost unreal stories of those who were struggling that gave their life to Him and became new creatures, or so they called it.
And more than anything, I wanted to be changed
I wanted to be transformed into a new person
And so day after day,
Moan after moan,
He became my escape.
Nights were spent reading scriptures
Mornings were our alone time, and He was the only one who would hear
My thoughts
I remember the verse that woke me in the morning
“Today is the day He has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it.”
I walked the school hallways unaccompanied by friends,
Yet accompanied by Him who was so much more.
I grew a new strength that was not of my own but of a stronger existence
And the more of the Word I consumed, the clearer I began to see
Looking into the mirror I was dumb-founded by this beautiful reflection of a kind girl who had a great smile
I now spoke life into hard situations
And yes, the taunts came down harder than a hailstorm
But He would warn me in advance, getting me prepared for the attack,
Constantly reminding me to keep my focus on Him.
“Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of Him, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says He.”
My parents became one of many new values as well as my other family members
And little by little He supplied my heart with the confidence to take my once treasured relationships back.
Present day,
I am a champion in his eyes
I am a valued daughter
I love my life and I live with purpose.
I wouldn’t want to be anyone else but me.
And so day after day,
Verse after verse,
He became my God.
He became my Freedom.
Amen.
