My Voice

“Why do you sound like that?”

“Shut up and fix that.”

“Your accent can’t be that?”

“You can’t give a speech”

“You can't be the lawyer to represent me.”

“You can't survive another day unless you go to speech therapy.”

No, stop defining me.

Stop scaring me.

I am no lesser than you,

You are lesser than me.

I will not be ashamed of my voice.

I will not be scared to rejoice.

I will be that lawyer you think I can't.

I will give that speech I know I can.

Because my voice is me.

I know I can be,

Anything you told me

I can not be.
