Pacing Myself

I've always felt destined to make something great of myself

power within my own capability

they have tried to alienate me from my power, strip me of my kind nature, tear to shreds my own self understanding

for so long, I was made to fear myself by those who feared my success

I allowed them to isolate me from my own character in the ways they hurt me

the feeling of inferiority became all too familiar

so I ran.

as I abandoned my trauma, as did I abandon myself and those who love me most

Running became harder as the weight of my past crippled me, leaving me empty

it was not until I began walking that I could feel my feet

and as I walk, I see everything clearly, rather than the blur I once knew

forced to feel both good and bad

I'm just now catching my breath

and, though I may face the tight grip of a painful past,

I am coddled even moreso in a powerful future.
