Poem to a Shrew
I do not know why I even bother
Because to you, this may sound like a foolish pother
And after this, you and I shall cease this discourse
With the way you listen, I would have better luck confiding in a horse
This time, you will not my cloud by judgment
To me, you are nothing more than a vexing rodent
Even though you are the impudent culprit
I shall still explain this prompt exit
U bent in liefde met enkel uw zellf
To the Dutch, meaning you are in love with only yourself
When I confronted you, on how to me you were untrue
It felt like I was reciting poems to a shrew
You thought you could enslave me
But I am now free
You tried to suffocate me
And make my pride disappear
But I am still breathing and very much here
Unfortunately I have come to know you inside and out
When I fail to oblige your tasks, you grate and pout
Watching others suffer brings zest to your eyes
Deep down I know your snout is filled with rotten schemes and lies
You are aesthetic on the surface but hold far too much vanity
When you reveal your true character
It is astounding to believe you are of humanity
Ashamed at myself
For to you, I have always returned
Even though I heard your sinister plots
And witnessed how made others burn
Looking back on how you played your virulent game
It makes me feel appalled and filled with shame
For I laid back, and let you abuse the innocent
Unfortunately, I never spoke up until I became struck with your devilment
Not to worry, I am almost through
Now that it is said and done, I say, “Thanks”
Because now I know how to deal with shrews like you
So this is farewell, my dismal shrew
You shall not witness me weep another tear
Nor see me rue
So crawl into your sullen hole
And close your pygmy eyes
Your torment only made me stronger
While your heart remains small in size
Next time you speak unjustly
Do not think my lips will remain closed
Under that pretty face
Your true nature is finally exposed
