Proud To Be Me

“Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words can never hurt me?”

Weird.

Unloved.

Week.

Worthless and stupid hollered all the kid’,

Their cruelty changed all I did.

Putting others down making them feel small,

Bullies thinking they’re better, cause they’re bigger than them all?

One thing someone said ends up with a 13 year old dead.

Taking their life all because of that one thing said.

Problems not with the one getting kicked down,

Beaten.

Hurt.

Made to believe they have no wort’,

One day they’ve had enough,

Overwhelmed by feelings of shame

It’s not a matter of being tough,

A lost soul, doesn’t matter who’s to blame,

Stand up as one.

Together.

Make a change.

People don’t feel safe at school,

Who’s fault is that?

Administrators watch and turn a blind eye in fact

Student’s feelings too cumbersome

But from where is help to come?

To them, blurry is the hate,

But here clear is the fate,

Await’n to take place.

As you wait. for hate. to dissipate.

Maybe it’s time to change the pace,

Be willing to change to better the human race.

Take responsibility for what’s been done.

It’s time for us to stand as one.

Why seek to impress the care-less, the love-less, the aim-less?

Stand up for yourself,

Stand up for your beliefs,

Stand out in the crowd.

No! Stop categorizing.

The jocks, the nerds, the rich kids, and the mistakes.

We’ve all made mistakes,

Why judge each other's mistakes?

It all ends in heartaches, heartbreaks, messed up mental states, and funeral dates…

For all of us, different’s the spark,

That illuminates our dark,

Ignites our light,

Makes it bright,

So we can stand and fight.

...But what is it others see?

Projecting lies regardless of how I identify.

See me how you may,

The most convenient way.

Being mean and cruel is now the new cool,

Today’s requirement: be verbally violent ‘fore your retirement,

Don’t you know today’s cognition?

High School’s a competition.

Constantly updating your status, gotta know who’s the baddest,

Constantly showing off your “wonderful” life,

To who? Half the people you don’t know?

Or the other half? The ones just for show.

Wait. Gotta grow that Twitter ratio.

Whoa! My followers are too low?!

Oh? Still socially acceptab’o? Fo Sho.

Not with Facebook though.

Ew, Facebook, that’s been taken over by old people,

And old people? They’re not cool.

Cool? Oh like the sense of false assurance?

Masked by false friends, our durance

Forcing us to continually prove ourself,

As if you have to prove yourself...to anyone but one’s self.

If you’re so afraid of taking chances

You’ll never reach those advances

The same box, same circumstances

Push yourself.

Step out of the box, and you’ll find

It’s quite easy to open your mind

Being unexpected not only enhances, life’s true romances.

Take risks, explore the branches

You’re free to be, whomever you want to be.

So go ahead, hate on me.

Judge me.

And try to break me.

You’re no threat to me.

I’m Free.

I won’t kneed myself to meet your needs.

I am proud to be me.
