Reality

Students are not reaching their full capacity,

Some think it's because they have the audacity,

To sit and watch their life spiral down.

But little do they know that these students who are spiraling down,

Don't make a sound.

They don't talk about how their dream job got named “impossible.”

As though we couldn’t chase after it like no other.

We wanted something, and they shot it down.

And We didn't make a sound.
Then they go and blame us.

Say we watch everything happen, yet did nothing.

They say we need a plan.

We need a 10-year plan,

Talking about our college career,

Our future jobs that are near.

Showing us places to look at,

Showing us colleges, scholarships

Trying to put our life together.

Like puzzle pieces

And we accept it.

We do nothing and watch it happen.

Let guidance counselors and teachers determine our lives,

Because sometimes it feels like our life is in the archives.

And we forget about a 4.0 GPA.

We forget about even trying to get A’s.

All we care about now is passing.

We learned what we need to,

Copy and paste,

Not enough pages? Double space.

Don't know the answer? Pick C

And trust me I know, us students will try to flee,

And try to be free.

But the greatest lessons we need to know is not found in our textbook.

Don't look at them as they walk by,

Don't frown cause they think it's a silent cry.

Head down, and watch their feet.

And if a guy looks at you like you're a sweet treat,

Just ignore it?

It doesn't matter what you do, just don't call attention,

Oh, and did I mention?

The dates of wars shoved down our throats,

All the answers we need right in our notes.

Vocab words, greek roots.

Trying to learn about our attributes

Critique coming from our peers,

And this is just High school.

And we try to go far from here

As this sparks our greatest fears.

Anxiety attacks, knives stabbed in our backs.

Almost as if friendship meant nothing.

Sparking depression,

People showing aggression.

While staying up late, and waking up early takes its toll.

But don't forget to be there when they call roll.

Kids have to recover from their childhood,

What are we supposed to do?

Looking for a little hope,

A little light lost in the night.

But darling keep your eyes on the stars,

And your feet on the ground.

And make sure you don't look down
