Rise

I stand in a staircase

No windows, no lights

Only up or down are my choices in life.

Neither is not an option, no not anymore

When stalling leads to sinking, I must go to explore.

From below I hear a siren's song, tempting me to do wrong

But echos fall on death ears as I continue up along.

My body's weary and my mind is broken,

But I know each step shall see me closer to my goal

For the clock within refuses to wind down

Thud, Thud, Thudding

Until the only place I can look is down.
