A Stifling.

Blank

A white canvas

On the easel of the world

What to paint?

The pictures are all too well known

The stories already written

Your life to live?

Ha ha,

No.

I’m afraid not.

We define you

Your story

The world’s paper,

Our pen.

You are our canvas

The paintbrush goes as we will it

Our every whim

Writes your tale out

On the ledger of fate

You are ours

Not yours

This is our life you’re living.

Our rules

Our ideas

Our story.

Ours.

I started writing poetry my sophomore year of high school, after I had been inspired by an Andrea Gibson video. It was the first time I'd written a poem since I was in elementary school, and the first time I'd written one on my own time. When I finished it, and had shared it with my family, I realized just how much I enjoyed writing poetry. I started writing more, and just writing whatever came into my head, and kept on writing and writing for months and months on end. It's been a bit over two years since my sophomore year, and within that time I've written more than 300 poems. Along with poetry, I also enjoy theatre, photography, and people-watching.
