Take My Bones

Take my bones But do not crack or break them For my soul is far too damaged to heal its structure The will to heal was lost far long ago My lost soul will watch in agony as my bruised bones tear apart with every pity With every half truth With these empty words stating my kindness Stating their love for me Why did they wait until now to notice my pain? To be the shoulder for my no longer nourished heart? Why do I only matter now? These people never spoke a generous or kind word to me So what are these shallow tears for? Crystal like drips falling from your eyes with the slow wrinkle of your lips It became the permanent expression on my pale, tender face You made it happen You watched my layers wither away without any feelings of despair My pools of tears were real Your small puddles are nothing in comparison You made me lose all hope and will All love and strength All confidence and self-esteem You made me believe I could slip away without notice My only dying wish was to open your dark, careless soul to pain But now After every menacing word has been said And every final action has been done You still only put on a show So to the few whom I loved I’m not sure if you felt the same likeness But I’m sorry This is not your fault It is not your unanswered burden to carry So take my bones But do not crack or break them
