Through Particles

I want to be sound.
To leap from particle to particle and make people feel.
I want to be the hum of the ventilation system
The clacking of marbles and rustling of leaves.
Oh, how sneaky I would be! I want to be the syllables of "I love you"
The articulated consonants in the mouth of every over-annunciating teacher.
I want to be the misty, buttered noise escaping from a cymbal.

But then, I would also be the vibrations of a girl's sob.
I, who provided the medium for

every foul, vicious word
thrown at her by the same snarly boy
who pushed her off her bike,

and would wish I could travel back through the medium

and furl back in his lips
that made her close her wings.
