The Tree Outside

Dear Tree,

I miss you.

I am sorry about today.

This depresses me

and I wish I could have done more.

All you wanted to do was reach out to me

To care for me.

but They had to cut you down.

They had weapons

but They called it "Tools."

They believed it was for the best.

They thought you were

Dangerous

Harmful

"She is a liability."

But you would never

Because you were my only friend.

My umbrella for the summer naps.

My reading buddy.

My favorite sketchbook model.

My boyfriend test dummy.

My protector.

My friend to cry to when things went wrong.

But its all gone.

You had told me once

"Rylan, those we love

Don't go away."

If only my tears

Could bring you back to life.

And so I've saved a piece of you.

A memory.

A lament.

Thank you for being there for me.
