A Voice of Reason
In my short seventeen years of life, the worst day started out with me listening to my brother screaming and crying about how he did not want to live anymore. At the time I was only 13, my brother merely 11. He has been severly bullied from the time he had entered kindergarden, and it has followed him to this day. He has severe anxiety, is legally blind in one eye, and has ADD and ADHD. I watched helplessly as he cried every day. He could not understand why he was being bullied for things he could not control. I did not understand either. I've never been able to understand why some people think it is okay to pick on others because they are not society's idea of "normal". When I entered high school, I joined a class called ADL (Anti- Defamation League). In the class you learn how to be an ally to people who are being bullied that feel alone and that they don't have a voice. After two years of taking the class, I now teach the training class. I found something I am extremely passionate about, and I am able to advocate for anti-bullying through going to different classrooms thoroughout the school to educate my peers about bullying. I am sensitive, I am empathetic, I am a voice for people that can't speak up for themselves.
