The War
They’ve been on the war front all day
The gunfire wasn’t ceasing
Writing her feelings in a worn journal that’s creasing
The enemy is relentless, finding it pleasing
The war has taken a toll on her
She’s seen some things
The hope is little for new beginnings
The enemy is drawing near, but in this war nobody is winning
She is alone as her fellow soldiers leave her
She speaks what she feels but nobody believes her
There are no allies and she is far outnumbered
But what’s about to happen will cause the enemy to be humbled
That night, resting at her camp,
They bombarded her and she was shattered
They broke her while they taunted and chattered
Laughing at her
They thought they were bigger and badder
They won the war laughing, but were finally silenced after
She put a bullet through her head like her life didn’t matter
They won the war, but like I said no one is winning
The smiles all faded and no one was grinning
