Who Could Have Guessed
They say who could have guessed what her scars meant.
They said it was for attention
But it wasn't
They didn't believe that this could happen
But it did
Their pride and ignorance was in the way
It clouded their minds with vigorous thoughts
Now they realize
NOW THEY REALIZE
But it was too late
She was gone
She was in heaven but was expecting hell
Not that it made it right
But at least
At the very least
She was now in a good place
They went to her funeral and cried
They didn't have the right
The right to go there
To torture her relatives
To put her family through the hell again
Why now
WHY NOW
Why not sooner
Why couldn’t the have realized
Before her death
How could the do this to her
HOW COULD THEY DO THIS TO HER
Years and YEARS of pain in her eyes
Hint after hint
Cut after cut
No-one, NO-ONE noticed
Not them, not her family, not her friends
It was too late
She was gone
Now they cared
NOW THEY CARED
They could have, SHOULD HAVE, thought
Thought about what they said
Not just with their mouths
But with their phones, computers, and tablets
They vowed, promised
That it wouldn't happen again
They cried and sobbed
Good
But it wouldn't last
They would all forget
Maybe I would forget
I hope not
But that's how it all works
Nothing last forever
Not memories
Not people
Not the memories of people
It's sad but true
And now they know that
NOW THEY KNOW THAT
And their response is
"Who could have guessed"
And when they ask I will say
You could have guessed
YOU COULD HAVE GUESSED
If they gave her a chance
IF THEY GAVE HER A CHANCE
She’d still be here
But she isn't
And that's that
I wish I could have saved her
I WISH I COULD HAVE SAVED HER
But I couldn't
Not with them in my way
And I tried
I really did try
I pushed
I shoved
I kicked
I punched
I screamed
I yelled
They didn't budge
They just stood
With blank eyes
They ignored her
THEY IGNORED HER
They did
They did
And now all they say is
"Who could have guessed"
