Will I be?

When will I be good enough? When will I be chosen? Because I keep traversing The never-ending mountain Trying to hold on to a ledge Waiting for a hand to come down For Zeus to say with a booming voice That I am chosen That I can finally ascend Instead, it's other people At the base, not even halfway That get chosen And as I watch them ascend I get on my hands and knees Begging, pleading, praying Asking why Asking if my belief is warranted Or a fever dream And I wonder what they have I can't help but feel this anger This resentment This questioning If it's actually worth hanging on Or if it's time to accept That I will never be someone's Good enough

The Greek gods were pretty fickle and weren't known to treat humans or each other fairly. I'd break it off with Zeus (who obviously doesn't care) and search out another god.
