You're Perfect The Way You Are

The light illuminates her face.

The words on the screen bring on tears.

All she did was post a selfie,

One she thought she looked stunning in.

And now she's headed to the bathroom,

Ready to show those kids that she isn't fat and ugly.

The light illuminates his face.

The words on the screen bring on dissapointment.

He has worked so hard in the gym for so long,

Just to have it all degraded,

By some boys who are older, stronger, and buffer.

She grips the side of toilet,

Determined to make herself look skinny, pretty, acceptable.

The words just replay in her head.

"Why would you post a selfie like that? Gross."

"I didn't know you were pregnant. Is that a baby bump I see?"

He grips the steroroid bottle tightly,

Determined to make himself better looking, buffer, acceptable.

The words just replay in his head.

"Ha, you think you're buff, maybe you should hit the weights more."

"Do you even lift bro? Your arms are light chicken wings."

She sits back in bed and starts scrolling down her feed.

"There's that boy from the gym yesterday."

Mean comments wander below his picture,

But she decides to leave a nice one of her own.

One to brighten his day because she knows how it feels.

He sits back in bed and starts scrolling down his feed.

"There's that girl from the gym yesterday."

Mean comments wander below her picture,

But he decides to leave a nice one of his own.

One to brighten her day because he knows how it feels.

"Don't worry,

I think you're perfect the way you are.

Body, weight, soul, and mind.

Don't change to meet their standards,

You're perfect the way you are."

Her comment makes him smile, and he put down the bottle.

His comment makes her blush, and she threw away the diet pills.
