Reaching

July 6, 2013

Is my life built on
Lies? Or simple misconceptions?
You tell me this is my home,
It's even said that I belong,
You tell me I am loved,
That I can reach the sky
To me, you lie.
I'm trapped in a prison of sweetness.
Your sugar-coated words of adoration
Your gloating pride of MY accomplishments
Simply cannot hide
The burning longing buried inside
To keep me in the palm of your hand,
A mindless tool of servitude
Wrapped around your every finger
It's not working anymore.
Long-held misconceptions
Of parental rights are challenged,
Old rulers overthrown.
Like an unbroken stallion of the Old West
I run free
I find my own way
Loyal to my family,
But always free
Free
Free
Me.
