Closed Minds Won't Close Mine

Sat, 02/10/2018 - 17:13 -- Jayms F

Dear closed minds,

Pastel palettes far too often used to neutralize

Blemishes in skin when skin is only a disguise

Complexions of perfection should be make believe

Underneath the colored coatings it’s just you and me

Consider this a look inside the minds of those who work like mine

Why make time to pick these fights when you could be spending nights

Alone off your phone and in your head, in your bed

It's better than you've known once you drop the imaginary dread

Why is there an “us” who are safe and all the rest are labeled “them”?

Who came up with thinking we are gods and all they do is sin?

Complexions of protection should be make believe

Underneath the colored coatings it’s just you and me

Won’t we be the ones to come through?

And supersede the old ways, making new waves

This is only the perception of nothing

And what can grow from nothing

Is haunting

This is by far one of the most powerful poems I have read in a long time. It really hit home. You should be beyond proud of this and this should win, even over mine.
