Deception

And then, I just knew.

I had awoken.

My soul opened its eyes

And saw depths beyond imagining.

Every color was vibrant, every taste was sweet,

Every touch felt like home.

I was on fire but not burning.

No, I did not burn.

I lit up the sky with my flames,

My hot embers piercing the cold parts of my heart and making them warm again.

I was completely and utterly alive.

But then I woke up.

My room was dark.

I shuddered and sighed.

The shadows closed in and laughed at me,

So foolish to believe there was something good or worthwhile.

They extinguished the fire,

And put me back to sleep.
